Final Score: South River wins 35-14 over Meade
This match-up between South River and Meade played out tight early on, but as the game progressed South River’s passing attack took over the game. Quarterback David Foust and his plethora of pass catchers made big plays across the board overwhelming the Meade pass defense. South River’s offense wound up being too much to handle, and with Meade’s offense struggling to keep up resulted in a convincing 21-point win for south River.
Foust showcased his big arm and affinity for the deep ball by hitting on pass of 40, 29, 56, and 39 yards. Showing good ball placement and touch on these throws giving only his receivers a chance to catch them. South River scored touchdowns of 29, 56, and 39 yards through the air, while adding a 20-yard rushing touchdown from Delvin Johnson. Foust finished with 248 yards passing and 3 touchdowns on the night. His top receiving target Sean Leonard was a standout throughout the night amassing 7 receptions for 118 yards and 2 touchdowns. Averaging 16.9 per catch, displaying his ability as a big play target, with the great ability to get deep down the field. The offense for South River helped them jump out to a 14-0 lead, then finish the game with 21 unanswered for the victory.
In terms of the defense after they surrendered an early 14-point they stiffened up to shut them down in the second half. The unit was led by free safety Delvin Johnson who contributed just as heavily on defense as he did offensively. Johnson picked off Meade QB Calvin House twice and had 1.5 tackles. Linebacker Nasir Franklin-Branch had 8 tackles, one tackle for loss, and a fumble recovery. While Dominic Mirack added 4 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and one sack helped lead the charge from a quality effort from the front seven.
As for Meade it was a tough night for Calvin House and his team as they mustered 14 points, none of which came in the second half. Meade’s offense managed just 175 total yards versus South River on the game. Quarterback Calvin House managed just 144 passing yards, without much help from the running game that amassed just 31 yards itself. The offense was just 2-12 on third down and turned it over 6 times, including 5 interceptions.
Meade defensively hung tough early keeping themselves in the game, but as their offense sputtered this unit wore down. They allowed over 100 yards rushing and allowed several big pass plays which created chunk yardage and touchdowns. The defense could not slow down Sean Leonard and ultimately it led to a big night for South River’s top target.
Overall this was a game that was close early on despite the struggles of Meade’s offense. As the game went on South River continued to make plays, while Meade continued to turn the ball over. Leading to South River pulling away and moving to a 2-0 record on the year. South River moves on to play a road game at Annapolis. In turn leaving Meade to regroup after falling to 1-1 on the season. They now prepare next to take on Old Mill at home looking to bounce back.
