The DMV area has produced much talent on the Defensive side of the football over the years. Players that play a variety of positions and contribute heavily to their ballclubs. There are a few Defensive recruits who are also on their way have to making a significant impact on the High School scene this coming season. One of these is Nasir Pearce of St. Frances High School who will look to take the next step in his development the coming season. Nasir Pearce is a player with immense physical ability, and going into just his Sophomore season is an interesting young player to follow.
Pearce who stands at around 6’4” 300 lbs. is a defensive tackle recruit from the Class of 2022. He has great size for a young player at his position, giving him the chance to be a major force on the interior of St. Frances defensive line. Pearce is ranked as 4-star recruit by 247sports.com which his high for a player just entering his Sophomore year. He certainly has several raw tools at the position to make an immediate impact with increased playing time next season. While also having plenty of room to develop, with plenty of his high school career ahead of him. Pearce has already drawn significant interest from various collegiate programs as well. Schools like Maryland, Arizona State, Boston College, LSU, and Georgia are among 11 programs intrigued by his game. The fact that he has drummed up this much interest with few high school reps is impressive. It speaks to the amount of potential scouts already see in him, and by the film out on him so far it is clear to understand.
On the field Pearce’s biggest strengths include his raw strength when attacking opposing blockers. As he at times effortlessly overpowers his adversaries in rushing situations. He displays good reaction time and quickness off the snap allowing him to get on top of blockers quickly and get them on their heels. This quickness also allows him to shoot gaps well in run defense to make plays in the backfield. While also creating interior pressure in pass rush situations for his team. He also keeps a good pad level when rushing, gaining good leverage against his matchups. The fact he has this type of quickness at his size is impressive indeed. Pearce does have things he can work on, but these will come with further reps in game. Pearce needs to utilize his hands more in some situations to gain a further advantage on his opponents. If he adds a couple of go-to hand combinations when rushing he could lessen the physical effort at times he puts in when rushing. Pearce when he does not get home on a rush does not quit on the play. As he showcases good effort when pursuing ball carriers down the field. Pearce with further work should also get even stronger and faster as well, which is a scary thought with how gifted he already is. Pearce in essence just needs further opportunity to further show off the talent he definitely possesses.
Overall Nasir Pearce is a young player that with more opportunities to play next year should progress into a great player. The fact he has such great raw tools, in the early stages of his football career is exciting. This means he has so much to growth to go through going forward, which means there is no telling how dominant he can be. It is time to be on the lookout for this Class of 2022 recruit as next year we could see a huge leap.
