Coffen is a pass catcher who has the athleticism to make contested catches and maneuver his body along the sidelines to pull in tough receptions. He has reliable hands and rarely drops passes when they are thrown in his vicinity. He runs good routes, especially intermediate routes of both the in-breaking and out-breaking variety. While showcasing the ability beat defenders deep down the field. While being able to catch short passes and make plays after the catch. This due to the strength and quickness he moves with in the open field rarely allowing the first tackler to bring him down. Coffen does show on film his football intelligence through his navigation of zone coverages. Many times, finding soft spots in these coverages and making himself available for his quarterback. As a blocker he shows the willingness to block in the run game as well as down field on screens, but this area can always improve.
