Jamir Roberts is a 5’10” 165 lbs. wide receiver and defensive back for McDonogh High School in Owings Mills, Maryland. This Class of 2021 recruit has the talent an ability to be an impact player at the college level. Jamir Roberts is a player that does not have much buzz surrounding his name out of the 2021 class. This season he could change that by displaying all his abilities during a strong senior campaign. That is why this article will look to analyze the different skills Jamir Roberts has at the two positions he contributes at. Displaying the parts of his game that play a role in making him sufficient at both positions.

Jamir Roberts when analyzing him as a player you must first start with his ball skills. Roberts does well to adjust to the football when it is in the air, maximizing his chances to come down with the football. He on film shows the ability to maneuver his body to position himself for underthrown passes as a receiver. While adjusting to the ball down the field when in coverage to give himself a chance to make a play to batt a pass or intercept the ball as a defensive back. He great ability to locate the ball quickly at both positions makes him an optimal playmaker on both sides of the ball. The fact he showcases these abilities to find and get his hands on the football consistently speak well to his play at both positions. As this help prove he can be both a productive receiver and solid cover corner.

Roberts also displays great burst and quickness which aids him at both positions greatly. His burst and quickness help make him a threat to make a big play at any moment as a receiver. As he catches a pass or take a handoff/ toss and turn up field with force and explosion. Allowing him to on shorter passes or runs create chunk plays for McDonogh offense. His quickness in and out of cuts and juke moves also make him very elusive. Making difficult for the first defender in to make a tackle on him, thus creating yards after a catch or contact. That is why they put Roberts in a multitude of situations to increase the numbers of times he touches the ball each game. Whether on a screen, end around or pitch play, or even as a returner McDonogh wants the ball in his hands as much as possible. In terms of how this helps him as a corner the quickness aspect allows him to close on the ball or player he is covering instantly. Which helps him generate the number of pass break ups he was able to on film. This also makes it hard for opponents to beat him on deeper routes down the field because of him make up speed. Along with the ability to keep his feet and stay balanced while running full stride up the field. The burst aspect as well contributes to his ability to close on the ball quickly and make plays on it or the receiver. It also allows him to build up speed to deliver big impact hits in the open field on opposing receivers.

The last part of his game that work well to make him effective at both positions is his anticipation. Roberts as a receiver does a good job consistently running his routes solidly, making sure to run them as if he is always getting the ball. His skills to recognize the location a ball is going while in the air gives him time to maneuver accordingly during a play. It also helps him continue to learn and recognize holes in zones when running routes, knowing when to breakdown and make himself available. As a defensive back this skill makes his job easier as he can better guess what route is coming during a play. Good film study plays a role in this, and Roberts shows several times great anticipation of a route and ends up beating the receiver to the spot. As he continues to cultivate this skill this will allow him to gamble more as a DB. Thus, creating more takeaways for his defense.

Jamir Roberts as a young football player shows great talent and versatility by being able to play multiple positions well. This will only make him a valuable commodity as he goes into his senior season. If he puts up a great year and shows proficiency at both positions this will make him an intriguing prospect to scouts. He will get more notoriety nationally and this will lead to more offers from college programs. He has one current offer from The United States Naval Academy which was his first official D1 offer. Jamir Roberts has all the tools to be a quality contributor at the next level, and observers must see the value in multiple roles he plays on his team.
