Archbishop Carroll Linebacker Shon Reid is a 5’10” 205 lbs. tackling machine for Carroll’s defense. Shon Reid a Class of 2022 Linebacker should have an opportunity to be a major contributor the coming season. Reid has plenty of skills that give him a chance to be a dominant linebacker in the WCAC. This piece will look to highlight his skillset and any college offers he has received.

Reid is the epitome of a tackling machine as he led Carroll in tackles per game last season at 10.2 per game. He tackles with great physicality and aggression, always setting a tone for his defense. As a run defender he is very good at shooting and filling gaps in the rune game. Tackling with good technique and making sure to never overrun a play, staying discipline in his decision to attack.

Reid’s physicality gives him an advantage when Carroll uses him on offense. Utilizing him usually as a lead blocker/fullback role to open holes for their running back. This showcases his versatility to perform multiple tasks at multiple positions for Carroll. The patience Reid plays with when reading and reacting to a play is also impressive. As he waits to give himself the bets opportunity to make a play without compromising the rest of his defense. The abilities Reid displays at the linebacker position make a prototype linebacker prospect with still plenty of growth to come.

In terms of what Reid could improve or add to his game, the skills I could see are more playmaking in coverage. Along with increasing his speed and quickness physically. As a linebacker in coverage Reid is serviceable, but with any young player more reps could be used to create more comfort in this area. As he could learn to anticipate better in zone coverage which will have more around the ball and have more chances to create turnovers. Physically increasing his speed and quickness will help Reid’s game even more. As this will allow him to be more mobile sideline to sideline and chase down plays effortlessly. This as well will make him an even fiercer run defender as he will be able to get in the backfield quicker to blow up plays and create negative plays before they get started. With these minor tweaks to his game Reid will establish himself as an all-around linebacker. Which while still early in his high school career would be impressive.

This young linebacker recruit has 2 current offers from college programs to date. These being from Temple and the University of Massachusetts. After making 1st team all WCAC in his freshman year. Along with being tops in the conference in tackles per game his sophomore year the sky is the limit. With an even stronger junior year Reid can become one of the better defensive prospects in the coverage. Reid just needs to continue to grow his game and he will see more offers come his way. While leading a Carroll team on the upswing to greater achievements in the tough WCAC.
