Leron Husbands is a big, physical, and talented pass catching option in the DMV area. At around 6’3” 200lbs. Husbands showcases the size and ability to succeed at both wide receiver and tight end. As he prepares for his coming senior season this Class of 2021 pass catcher will look to display all the skills that make him a major threat on an offense. This article will look to highlight the abilities of Leron Husbands. While presenting a few answers to questions I posed to him recently after contacting him.
Leron Husbands will play football for Flowers High School this coming campaign, after spending previous seasons at Archbishop Carroll High School. The 3-star recruit as per Rivals.com and 247sports.com showcases many skills that make him a valuable playmaker. When I reached out to Husbands about what he sees as strengths in his game, Husbands stated, “I think my strengths are blocking and aggressiveness.” His film supports these claims as he is a great blocker on the edge and outside for his offense. He utilizes his great strength and length to overpower most opponents and clear paths for ball carriers to find space. The other skills he has include making sure to use his strong hands to secure receptions and be a reliable target for his quarterback. He also has a large catch radius because of his size and length, making him great on contested catches in congested areas. He runs with long smooth strides and has deceptive elusiveness and burst. Husbands also showcases his great versatility in the fact he can operate out of a multitude of positions on offense. With experience playing in the slot, on the end of the line, and outside and inside the numbers as both a receiver and tight end.
When I inquired about parts of his game, he wanted to improve Husbands said, “I need to practice my route running and catching.” As Husbands does need to sharpen his route running further and extend his knowledge of the route tree. He needs to make sure to not round off his routes and execute his breaks and cuts sharper to create even more consistent separation. Plus, as far as his hands go, they are solid but strengthening this part of his skillset is never a bad idea either. I then went on to ask about what he see as the most important task to perform at his position. He explained, “the most important task at my position is getting open quick so the QB can see you.” Showing he understands how important it is for him to find away open quickly to give his quarterback an option each play. Making sure in many ways to be available even on plays when he is not the primary target to provide that security blanket. His responses to these questions really show the understanding he has about his game and his role in an offense.
I then inquired about what goals he has for his senior year as a player. The two main things he pointed out dealt with both team and individual achievement. Husbands stated, “this coming season I want to go undefeated and catch 10 touchdowns.” This response made it clear he wants his team to have success as much as he puts up great individual numbers which shows quality intangibles. Plus, with as talented as he and his team are both these goals are possible.
My final question was about the recruitment process he went through. Specifically asking about his recent commitment to the University of Maryland and why he chose this program. Husbands stated, “I chose to commit to Maryland because of the environment and how close it was to home.” Continuing, “It was a place I wanted to be.” Husbands commitment to Maryland gives this college program another talented recruit to look forward to soon. Husbands seems very set in his decision and it is great that he has an opportunity to achieve at the next level on the horizon.
Leron Husbands overall as a player is Physically gifted, hard-working, and focused. The film shows off all the tools he has to be an impact playmaker at the next level. Now with a good to breakout level year at Flowers High School this coming season. Husbands will establish himself firmly as one of the best receiver/tight end prospects coming out of the Class of 2021.
